Privacy Matters Reports Budgeting Is Key to Overcoming Credit Card Debt
Privacy Matters asks, “Are you looking for a financial tool that can save you money and help you escape from credit card debt?” The answer is so simple, and so obvious, that you’ve probably thought about using it many times in the past — a budget.
PrivacyMatters*, a privacy and protection program offered by Adaptive Marketing LLC®, says budgeting your money is a key step in breaking out of the revolving door of high-interest credit card balances. Moreover, budgeting can give you the peace of mind that comes from being in control of your own financial future.
Unfortunately, many people become overwhelmed at the notion of making a budget, and think living with a budget is too restrictive. But nothing could be further from the truth. Using a budget can be easy and empowering if you keep it simple, make it personalized and have the discipline to see it through.
Privacy Matters suggests these steps toward a successful budget:
1. Determine your net income. With direct deposit, many people don’t even know how much money they make after taxes. Look at your most recent pay stubs to find out how much money you have coming in after taxes each month.
2. Record all of your expenditures. You can make a list of your large monthly expenses (rent, utilities, gasoline, groceries) fairly easily by saving receipts and credit card statements and looking at your checkbook log. Use a notebook to keep track of everyday expenditures: things like coffee, cigarettes, dry cleaning and lunches can really add up. Finally, add up your credit card debts, and make note of the various finance charges, fees, and interest you are paying for each account.
3. Subtract your expenses from your income. The results will come as a surprise to almost everyone new to budgeting. But this is precisely the “wake-up call” most of us need to identify unnecessary spending as well as credit-related fees, interest and finance charges.
4. Come up with a budget, write it down — and stick to it. There’s not much you can do about fixed expenses like rent and car insurance. But there is ample opportunity to make small changes and put that money to better use, such as paying off your credit card balances. Keep your budget in your purse or wallet as a reminder to stay on track.
Privacy Matters reminds you that a budget is a tool that gives you economic power, freedom from credit card debt, and financial peace of mind. Instead of a chore, creating a budget can be the key to controlling your own financial future.
